Deck the Halls
We spent all day (and I do mean ALL day) on Saturday decorating the house for Christmas. It's always so nice to come home from Thanksgiving and have it all done so we can enjoy the full season. The boys' tree in the playroom went up first so that they could get involved. Their tree is lit with multi-colored lights (kids LOVE those!) and decorated with all the handmade ornaments they've made over the years as well as cartoon characters and other special keepsake ornaments. Cole was much more into it than Travis this year. Travis was much more interested in what would go under the tree than on it. But Cole, in an amazing display of attention span (I knew he had one!) hung almost all the ornaments on their tree. When he was done, we had a beautiful 7 ft. tree with ornaments on the bottom 3 ft. only, sometimes 4 or 5 deep on one branch. But he was so proud! And I quietly spread them out after the boys were asleep. It does look beautiful and it's such a fun representation of all the stages they've passed through already.Posted by Amy at 9:40 PM 0 comments

Psalm Recitation
In Psalm 19, David extols that God's creation and his Word reveal his greatness. The fourteenth and final verse says, "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O Lord..."Posted by Amy at 7:31 PM 0 comments

Trick-or-Treat!

The Daddys started out with all four kids while the Mommies stayed back to pass out candy. But after about four houses, Cole decided he was scared of the dark and needed to be carried. By the end of the night, he was running a fever, so that damped Halloween for him considerably. The Mommies traded off and took the two big boys to finish the neighborhood and had a great time watching them go house to house. Thanks, Julie and Kevin, for letting us crash your neighborhood!Posted by Amy at 3:54 PM 1 comments

First Grade Smile
I can't even begin to explain the changes we've seen in Travis since he started first grade. He's always been mature. We jokingly call him our "little old man." But the new school has taken his structured personality and honed him into a superstar student. For example, one night it was nearing bedtime and we hadn't reviewed his spelling words. Knowing the next day was not a test day, I suggested that we just go to bed and leave them for the next night. He grimmaced, shook his head and said, "Now that would just be setting me up for bad habits." (And yes, I did feel badly about being less disciplined than my 6 year old.) On days that we have an after school activity, he comes home and dives right into his homework...usually without being reminded. And he's learning amazing theological truths. The first grade focuses on the stories of the New Testament and he was more than a little excited to relay the miracle at Cana to me. He said, "Mommy, Jesus did something you're really gonna love--he turned a barrel of plain ol' water into WINE!" Yes, miraculous...and again, feeling badly...Posted by Amy at 5:19 PM 1 comments
