$1,000 provides students with suppliesJennifer Tigrett's kindergarten class at Hutto Elementary School now has literacy materials her students would not have otherwise, thanks to an anonymous $1,000 donation. With the money donated through the Adopt-A-Classroom program, an organization that encourages communities to support local schools, Tigrett bought storytelling puppets, including Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk and the Three Bears; rhyming picture cards; magnetic sign cards and 12 storytelling kits.“These materials will strengthen students' skills at oral storytelling, sequencing and the ability to identify characters, settings and problems. Using materials that you can manipulate and using kinesthetics and movement increases student chances at gaining comprehension far better than storytelling with just a book alone,” she said.Tigrett said she was totally surprised about the donation and at first was in disbelief it had actually been given to her and the students.“It deeply touches my heart that someone would give so much to our classroom and remain anonymous. It's such a rare act of kindness and generosity that you really never hear about anymore. Most individuals and companies who donate want the recognition. Since this person wants to remain anonymous, that shows that it was a true act of kindness. I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart. It's a nice reminder that people have so much goodness in them,” she said.
